    The Drift collection comprises a bar-height stool, a low stool, and a coffee table. Inspired by the driftwood that washes up near the designers' Northern California homes and distinguished by the surprisingly minimal kiss of joinery that lends the pieces structure, this versatile collection is friendly and sophisticated. In natural ash with palette of painted finishes; stool footrests in powder coated steel. Also available is a limited-edition stool with a bronze footrest fabricated by hand in Branch's San Francisco foundry.

    A simple armchair whose frame defines a striking negative space, Lat’s design is inspired by the back of the sitter—where it rests against the chair and where it pulls away. Lat’s frame is available in natural and stained Ash, and Walnut; its seat comes upholstered in a variety of 100% wool fabrics.

    New for 2016, the Perimeter collection includes 2- and 3-seater sofas and a lounge chair. Each piece in Perimeter is defined by a slim metal frame that supports an upholstered shell to gently encircle its occupants. Available with down or synthetic cushions in various upholstery fabrics.


  • Friends with Benefits - Panel Discussion at ICFF 2016

    It wouldn’t be much of a stretch to say that most of the people on this panel count each other as friends first and colleagues second, and much of that goes back to their common beginnings. In 2007, when manufacturer Council was exhibiting its debut collection here at ICFF, designer Brad Ascalon was also making his debut across the floor in the Bernhardt Design ICFF studio exhibition.One year later, designers Harry and Claudia Washington were exhibiting at ICFF as part of a contingent from El Salvador, meeting Derek Chen that year, as well as Jerry Helling of Bernhardt Design, a prominent US design brand that aided in skyrocketing the careers of Harry & Claudia as well as Ascalon. Coleman Gutshall, who came to Bernhardt a few years later has worked intimately with the designers that Bernhardt collaborates with through the company’s many strategic initiatives.     As part of a contingent representing San Francisco Design Week, Council was asked to exhibit at Downtown Design Dubai, alongside fellow San Francisco companies Galanter & Jones and Lumio. We were shown great hospitality by our hosts and enjoyed experiencing the culture of the region and meeting local design talent. This was our first introduction to this part of the world, and it's clear we must go back.

    Council was once again honored to participate in Contempo, the design biennial of El Salvador.  Founder Derek Chen joined designer Mark Thorpe, Claire Pijoulat of Wanted Design, and Sarah and Victor Lytvinenko of Raleigh Denim Workshop for a week of inspiring design, community, and friendship.
